DECATUR -- Rella I. Salmons, 103, of Quincy died at 6:20 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL. Rella was born on Sunday, July 27, 1913 in Shelbyville, IL a daughter of Calvin and Otie (Severe) Howe. She married Clarence J. Salmons October 26, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Rella was of the United Methodist faith. She was a talented quilter, embroiderer and also liked crocheting. Rella loved playing Bingo and cards, especially the game "Skip-Bo".

She is survived by her children: Gene Salmons and his wife Neveta of Liberty, IL; Garroll Salmons and his wife Norma of Aberdeen, SD; and Barbara McDowell and her husband Richard of Florissant, MO; sister, Fleta Griffith of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Cheryl (Larry) Vogler; Jerry (Bobbi) Salmons all of Quincy; Brad Dykes and Brian Salmons both of Spokane Valley, WA; Desi (Aaron) Salmons-Midgett of Laramie, WY; Geanne Maschler of Olathe, KS; Barry Dykes of Racine, WI; Eric (Christy) McDowell; David (Cristal) McDowell all of Florissant, MO; Jameson (April) Tallyn and Steven Tallyn both of St. Louis, MO; and Sara Endejan (Nick), of St. Louis; great-grandchildren: Andy and Katie Vogler; Austin and Heather Salmons; Kathryn Midgett; Matthew Dykes; Trisha Hanks; Alex and Alissa McDowell; and James McDowell and Evelyn G. Tallyn; and several nieces and nephews.

Rella was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, two daughters; Julia Salmons and Evelyn Tallyn, one brother; Carl, and five sisters; Edith, Vera, Bertha, Leta, and Doris.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown, IL followed by interment in Liberty Cemetery, Sefton. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown, IL. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Senior Center Activities Fund, 639 York Street Quincy, IL 62301.
