His parents were married on August 12, 1849 in Edmonson County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were George Asa Blanton and Margaret "Peggy" Saling, who came to Edmonson County, Kentucky from North Carolina. Asa was a short man rode his horse name of Sam. He had to get on the porch to mount his horse. Died of heart attack on the way home from church. He believed in getting a good education and was very stern about it with his grand children.
