Talmadge Wayne Best, 73, of Belhaven, N.C., died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.

Mr. Best, born in Stumpy Point, N.C., was retired from Dare County Public Works and was a former commercial fisherman and wholesale seafood dealer. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Williamston Memorial Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Alton W. and Ruby Gibbs Best and was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Best.

Mr. Best is survived by his wife, Margaret "Marge" Bruce Best of the residence; a daughter, Susie Best White and husband Stan of Nags Head, N.C.; a son, Jeffery D. Best and wife Terry of Belhaven, N.C.; three grandchildren, John White and wife Sara, Kristen Minshew and husband Mark and Emily Best.

A memorial service will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Stumpy Point, on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Clark and the Rev. Tom Jennings officiating. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements.
