The deceased was born at Eden, Vermont, February 23 1810; was married to Cooper Brooks March 22 1827, at St. Omir, Decatur county, Indiana. She leaves nine children, six sons, and three daughters, to mourn their loss. Her husband and one daughter having passed from this life some years ago. The surviving children are C. G. Brooks, Cherryvale, Kansas; Mrs. Nancy Sanger, Hammond, Indiana; L. D. Brooks, Mineral Ridge, Iowa; J. G. Brooks, Crown Point, Indiana; W. W. Brooks, Peru, Kansas; J. M. Brooks, Lowell, Indiana; Mrs. Clarissa Sanders, South Chicago, Illinois; Lyman Brooks, Columbus, Kansas; amd Mrs. Sarah Cole, Girard, Kansas. With their wives, children and grand children, they numbered more than a hundred. While yet only twelve years old she united with the M. E. Church and has ever since been an earnest and devoted christian. Though 83 years, ten months and 21 days old at the time of her death, she never so long as she was able to sit up, which was about two weeks before her death, tired of reading her Bible, and many are the references jotted down in her books of words and passages of scripture that had cheered and comforted her while a sufferer on earth. But thanks be to God we know that she is safe and free from suffering on the Other Shore where today she sings the praises of the God she loved so long.
