Private, Company D, 51st Alabama Partisan Rangers. Son of William F. and Delilah Dillard Bryant of Calhoun County, Alabama. Part of Gen. Joseph Wheeler's command during the fight at Shelbyville, Tennessee, on June 27, 1863, Pvt. Bryant, along with many of his regiment, was captured by Federal forces. According to the Fort Delaware Society, he was taken to Franklin, Tennessee, then was sent from there to the Louisville Military Prison, arriving there on July 3, 1863. He was then, on July 7, forwarded to Camp Chase, Ohio, and from there to Fort Delaware, arriving in the midst of the mass arrivals from Gettysburg on July 14. He contracted smallpox, and died there October 8, 1863.

An error in transcription caused him to be listed on the Confederate Monument at Finn's Point as being in the 57th Alabama.
