Spec. 4/c, U.S. Army Vietnam War-Spec. Frakes was killed in action near Phan Thiet, Vietnam on 1-26-1973 as a Scout Gunner on a {OH-6A} Helicopter while serving with H Troop of the 10th Air Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade, Spec. Frakes started his tour in Vietnam on June 10, 1972, and was the last Illinois soldiers to die in Vietnam.

He is the son of Mr. Ira & Mrs. Eva {Bishop} Frakes of Macomb, Illinois, and is a 1971 graduate of Macomb H.S., and joined the Army a short time later. He leaves three brothers, Gene of Macomb, Larry in Michigan, and Marvin of Columbia, South Carolina, and two sisters, Miss Nava Frakes of Macomb, and Mrs. Carolyn Brown of Iowa.

Awards: Purple Heart, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal.
