He was born on September 25, 1952 in El Paso, TX to Army Captain Donald David and Mary Elizabeth Carroll.
He was of the Catholic faith. Billy Ben received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. He was in the United States Air Force from March 9, 1971 – March 7, 1975, during Vietnam era serving in Incirlik, Turkey. During his time in the Illinois Army National Guard and Army Reserve he served in Honduras, Saudi Arabia and Bosnia.
He achieved the rank of Major and received a Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars (BSS) , Armed Forces Recognition Ribbon, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (K), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA).
Surviving are two brothers, David Carroll of Los Angeles, CA and Day Wolf Carroll of Orange, Massachusetts and a sister Silvia Ann Carroll of Austin, TX.
Memorial Gathering: 4 – 7 pm Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Graveside Service: 10:00 am, Thursday June 30, 2011 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
