John and Ada were married in Yuma County, Colorado by Methodist minister Fred Varcoe in the presence of Fred G. Murrow and Cora Pelver. John's brother Fred Whiteaker wrote a letter giving his consent for John to marry and stating that John was 19 years old. At this time in Colorado to marry without parental consent a male had to be 21 years old and a female had to be 18 years old. Ada's maiden name was Brower

John and Ada and their son were enumerated on the 1920 census on January 13th in McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska at (403) East B. Street. They were living with Rose Owens and were listed as roomers---that is they rented rooms in her household. Rose was 64 years old widow who was born in Indiana--her father was born in Pennsylvania and her mother was born in Indiana. Ada and her parents were born in Missouri. John's occupation was given as machinist in a garage. Ada passed away maybe in August or September 1920. By July 1925 john was living in Medora, Billings County, North Dakota on the Z. L. Ranch. He may have been using the name J. Kelly Whiteaker. From letter to Sallie Mayfield dated July 18, 1925. John came and visited relatives in the Wayne, Oklahoma area in about 1929.

On his death certificate John is listed as a carpenter. Was living in San Leandro for the past 7 months as of November 1949. Certificate #997713
