Daughter of John and Eliza (Kenney) Ellison, father born Holderness and mother in Alma Maine. Her father was a farmer and carpenter.

Mother of Frederick Linwood Ames 1876-1940; wife of David Burleigh Ames 1847-1890 and of Henry H. Mason 1939-1899.

Mattie J. Ellison married David Burleigh Ames in Plymouth on Nov 18, 1869. Ge was a railroad worker age 22 and she was 18. He was the son of William B. and Annie (Burleigh) Ames. He died Sept 7, 1890 in Holderness of heart disease.

Martha married William H. Mason in Mason New Hampshire on Oct 6, 1897.

Martha died a resident of Moultonboro for 21 years, at age 62, 9 mos and 4 days, born Holderness, widowed, occupation was that of a boarding house owner. She died after suffering appoplexy 18 mos prior.

~~~Added by BL Hughes: Martha Ames Mason of Moultonborough passed away at her home, Fairmount Cottage, Tuesday evening December 30 after an illness of about 18 months. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 10 o'clock by Reverend H R Hill of Center Harbor. Interment at Trinity Cemetery Holderness where a short service was also held. Mrs Mason was born in Holderness March 25, 1851, the third of the children of John and Eliza Ellison. She was educated at Plymouth Academy and Tilton Seminary. In November1890 1869 she married David Burleigh Ames of Holderness. One son was born to them. Their home was in Charlestown and Cambridge, Massachusetts until the death of Mr Ames which occurred in September 1890, when she came to live in Fairmount Cottage where she kept boarders, with the exception of her second marriage which took place in 1897 to Henry H Mason, who died about two years after.

Mrs Mason leaves one son, Fred L Ames of East Hartford, Connecticut, a grandson, Harold B Ames, one sister, Mrs R D Greene, eleven nieces and nephews in Nebraska, Wyoming and Oregon, besides a host of friends. Mrs Mason was loved by all who knew her. She was a Christian from early life, was a member of the Methodist Church at Plymouth, then at Cambridge and later Moultonborough. She was a great lover of nature, and painted many beautiful oil paintings and was a teacher of the subject. Mrs Mason will be greatly missed in the home and the community where she has lived so long. Pillows of roses from near relatives, with sprays of pinks from friends and from the Ladies' Aid of which she was a member. The Ashland Citizen, January 10, 1913, p8.
