He was a World War II pilot in the Army Air Corps stationed in England. He was a graduate of Purdue University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. As a civil engineer, he was instrumental in the construction of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway under passes. He was a psychologist at Fort Wayne State Hospital, Fort Wayne, prior to his retirement.
He loved reading, bike riding and swimming in the Gulf. During his retirement years he won a senior triathlon.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dr. Doris L. Wakeland Swank.
Interment will be Nov. 7, 2005 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Collier County Florida Public Library. News-Sentinel, The (Fort Wayne, IN) - July 12, 2005
