US Congressman. Born in Greensburg, Louisiana, he graduated from the Louisiana State University, taught school; studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1870 and commenced to practice law in Bastrop. He was member of the Louisiana State Senate (1879-83), when he declined a judgeship being elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress, serving (1887-89). An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he continued the practice of law until his death at age 61 in Monroe, Louisiana.
