Clarence A. shadwell, 81, of Effingham died 9:15 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2000, at Saint Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of God of Effingham with burial with military graveside rites at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and one hour before services. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God, Effingham.

Mr. Shadwell was born August 29, 1919 in Effingham the son of Louis and Mary (Arnold) Shadwell. He was married to Ruth Miller in 1939. She died August 9, 1998.

He was a retired auto mechanic with Graham Motor Company and Shouse Motor Sales, both in Effingham, and was retired from Effingham Post Office; was a member of the First Church of God, Effingham; and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his daughters, Clarice Buzzard, Mrs. Larry (Karen) Reed, Mrs. Dwight (Judy) Smith and Mrs. William (Carmel) Mette, all of Effingham, Mrs. Gene (Sharon) Koop of Bethel Park, Pennyslvania; 16 grand-children, and 22 great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Louis, Fred Charles and Roscoe, and one great grand-child.
