Lois Evelyn Collier Baker, of Ellicott City, died July 21, 2008 at her home in Mount Hebron, Ellicott City, MD. She was 91. Born June 16, 1917 in Martinsville, Illinois to George Washington Collier and Melissa Caroline McCarty.

Lois and Franklin D. Baker were married for 67 years on June 16, 1938, and settled on the Mt. Hebron farm and lived in the Historic Hebron House for many years. Franklin died January 23, 2006.

She was past worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern star in Ellicott City, MD in 1946. She was an American Red Cross Volunteer (1943-46), member of the Patapsco Grange, the Ellicott City Lions Club Womens Auxillary, Mt. Hebron Improvement Association, Mt. Hebron Homemakers Club, and PTA Volunteer for many years. She was also a contributor to the Howard County General Hospital Foundation.

Mrs. baker was one of the charter founders of the MT. Hebron Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City and always enjoyed going to Sunday services. In the early years she was a member of the Rockland United Brethren Church (now Rockland United Methodist) where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, Youth Choir and was active in many church fairs with her famous pumpkin pies and angel food cakes. This included many years of helping with Brownie Scouts, Girl Scout Projects and the many hours of 4-H club work, ballet lessons and the task of transporting to all these activities.

Mrs. Baker will be remembered by the religious music she composed and set to music. She was known for her poetry and for writing poems for special occasions fro friends, family and the church.

Mrs. Baker enjoyed being a Farmer's wife, housewife and mother to two daughters; Callie and Judy. Five or six foster children were with the family after Judy died, including Edna Blanchfield who joined the family when she married Charles Carrington Baker. Lois was known for her home cooked meals with hot biscuits. She always enjoyed baking pies, cakes and cookies weekly for family and friends. Mrs. Baker enjoyed sewing for her daughters, making curtains and quilting with her church circle until she became legally blind.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Franklin D. Baker, daughter Judy Lynn Baker; 5 brothers, Jesse Allen Collier of New Smyrna. Fla., Charles Morton Collier, Raymond Barnet Collier, George Eugene Collier Harry Woodrow Collier all of Illinois; 3 sisters, Nellie May Collier, Wilma Dean Collier of Illinois and Carrie Alice Collier Neeley of Illinois and Maryland.

She is survived by daughter, Callie Baker Peddicord, grandson Gregory Duff Peddicord and his wife Catherine "Chatty", one great grandchild, Meadow Claire Peddicord, and many nieces and nephews.
