Lapel---Mrs. Ellen (Ella) Sears, 93, one of Lapel's oldest residents, died yesterday afternoon at her home here. A native of Pendleton, she was one of 13 children, and was the daughter of John and Sarah Hersberger. She was married in 1885 to James Sears, who died in 1939. Mrs. Sears was a pioneer school teacher of this community, conducting classes between 1880 and 1885. She was a member of the Lapel Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Anna McClintock, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Dorothy Newton, Anderson; three sons, Virgil, Glen and John Sears, all of Lapel; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Fisher Brothers Funeral Home, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday. Services will be conducted Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Lapel Methodist Church with the Rev. G. Steedman in charge. Interment will be in the mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson. It has been requested that friends omit flowers and that contributions be sent to the Crippled Children's Fund.
