Myron (Mike) Geurkink

Myron (Mike) Geurkink, age 81, of Baldwin, passed away at the Baldwin Area Medical Center on September 11, 2003.

He was born to Roy and Marjorie (Johnson) Geurkink on January 7, 1922 in Baldwin.

Mike graduated from Baldwin High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Wilma (Anderson) on September 26, 1953. He worked on the family farm until 1968, then went to work for the St. Croix Highway Department and worked there until he retired in 1987.

One of Mike's greatest joys was his 23 grandchildren; Natalie (Vince) Lukes, Angie (Chad) Chandler, Jeff Geurkink, Justin Geurkink, Ashley Geurkink, Tonya Geurkink, Carrie Vanasse, Michael Larson, Mariah Vanasse, and Nicholas Larson and his seven great-grandchildren; Karlee Chandler, Ashley Lukes, Whitney Chandler, Cayla Thompson, Samantha Lukes, McKenna Chandler an Damien Gotzman.

Mike was an avid sports fan, whether playing or watching. He played baseball until 1953 then played church softball for several years after that. He bowled from 1953 until 2000. He enjoyed time spent with good friends playing cards or having breakfast at Hardee's.

Preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and one brother, Harvey.

Mike is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Wilma of Baldwin, his five children, David of Dresser, Randy of Baldwin, Dan of Baldwin, Cindy (Tom) Vanasse of Spring Valley, Julie (Chris) Larson of Baldwin. One sister, Lois (Reuben) Larson of Baldwin. One brother-in-law, Kenny Anderson of Streamwood, Ill. Two sisters-in-law, Audrey (Ron) Miller of River Falls, Shirley (Dale) Fredrickson of New Richmond and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Monday, September 15 at the First United Presbyterian Church of Baldwin, where Mike was a life long member.
