Sheffield, IL - Thelma K. Carper, 94, formerly of Sheffield a resident of Pine Crest Terrace Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL, died there on Saturday, June 18, 2011.
Thelma Katherine Roush was born Feb. 21, 1917 in Bath, Minnesota, the daughter of Virgil and Stella (Gunning) Roush. Thelma graduated from Buda High School and from Black Hawk East College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married Gordon C. Carper on July 3, 1936 in Peoria. He died on Feb. 25, 1984.
The couple had farmed south and west of Buda for 39 years, moving to Sheffield in 1976. Thelma had worked at Kewanee Public Hospital, Sheffield Medical Center and Kraft Foods, Manlius.
Thelma was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sheffield, Sheffield Womens Club, Spoon River Club and Macon Club, south of Buda. She had been a member of Sheffield Rescue Unit and served as an EMT for many years.
She is survived by four children, James (Carol) Carper, Phoenix, AZ, Sheryl (Virgil) Rocke, Oregon, IL, Janet (John) Swartz, Mt. Horeb, WI and Julie (Rudy) Sigrist, Pleasant Plain, OH; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; three sisters, Geraldine Moore, Prophetstown, Margaret Diedrich, Chapel Hill NC and Bernadine Brumus, East Moline and brother Virgil Roush, Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Susan Crescenzo, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.
Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery, Buda.
