She attended Collegiate School and later Vocational School until the age of 18. At age 16 she did house work at Two Rivers, then was a waitress at Hotel Hamilton.
On October 26, 1940 she married Richard Plansky at St. Joseph Church, Norman. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2007. They farmed in Carlton until 1963 when they moved to Norman. Elsie was a sales counselor at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum and Cemetery for twenty-six years until retiring in 2002.
She was a member of St. Joseph Altar Rosary Society and helped for many funeral dinners. She is now a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish and Rosary Society of Tisch Mills. She moved to Two Rivers in 2008. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, Bean Bags and visiting with family, relatives and friends and appreciated all they did for her.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Sharon Duerschmidt-Peterson and Richard Peterson, Eagle River; special adopted daughter: Ann Durocher, Two Rivers; grandchildren: Gail (David) Powers; Brian (Lorena) Duerschmidt; Lynn Baruth; Dale Duerschmidt and special friend, Vickie; Paula Hardy; Erik (Shannon) Duerschmidt fifteen Great Grandchildren: Andrew, Nate Powers; Tanya, Lacey, Brian Jr. Duerschmidt; Peter (Pang) Heili; Brandon Tegen; Ashley (Tom) Moen; Samantha Duerschmidt; Abigail and Charlie Hardy; Olivia Justinger; Skye Wynter and Laken Duerschmidt; great great grandchildren: Ayden and Addison Moen; sister-in-law: Alice Staral, Milwaukee; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Kay Plansky; her mother: Mary Blahnik Staral and step-father: Frank Staral; Her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Wenzel and Catherine Plansky. Her sister: Evelyn (Laddie) Walechka; son-in-law: Kenneth Duerschmidt: step brothers: Clarence, Frank and James Staral.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m Friday, February 14 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m by Dcn. Robert Pribek. Visitation continues on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Isidore the Farmer Church, Tisch Mills until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m by Fr. Dennis Drury. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norman.
