R.O., as his family referred to him, was the oldest of two children born to John Hogan Bean He married Elizabeth Jane Harper in 1856 and they were the parents of five children: Emma Jane, Jordan Neil, Milton Jasper, Maynard Solomon Sr., and Nettie Servenia. He married (2nd) Annie Sager in 1911.
