LeRoy Alan Routledge, 47, Carpio, was killed when the semitrailer rig he was driving collided with a camper from British Columba on Interstate 94 one mile east of Rothsay, MN Monday.

Both vehicles were eastbound when the semitruck ran into the back of the camper, went into the median and rolled over, according to the Minnesota Highway Patrol in Detroit Lakes, MN The accident occurred at 11:20 p.m.

Barnesville Ambulance, in responding to the call, worked for an hour to extricate Routledge, who was pinned inside his vehicle. He died at the scene.

William John Boug, 65, Victoria, British Columbia, who was driving the camper, and a passenger, Fred Huva, 66, Pentiction, British Columbia, were released following treatment at Dakota hospital in Fargo. The funeral for Routledge was held Saturday September 15th at 2:00 p.m. in Carpio Lutheran Church, with burial in Nazareth Cemetery, rural Carpio.

He was born September 19th, in Minot, a son of Leland and Margie Routledge. Reared at Lansford, he went to work as a custom combiner and in the oil fields in northwest North Dakota after completing his education. He then served in the Air Force for a brief period, returning to North Dakota
following his discharge. He was employed at Fisher Motors Inc. of Minot for a time and then worked as a police officer in Minot and Carpio. He was engaged in private construction work for a four-year period before becoming employed as a trucker for a number of companies and for the Henry Neshem farm for several years. Most recently, he had been operating North Central Express, a private trucking company.

He was a member of the Carpio Lutheran Church and a former member of the Minot Moose Lodge. He was a recipient in 1982 of the Safety Driver Award for Power Fuels.

He married Betty Lee April 5th 1963. They lived in Minot for a year, then in Carpio until 1970 when they moved to Williston. In 1972, they returned to Carpio where they since have lived.

She survives, along with daughters, Lee Anna Routhledge Rochester, MN, Nancy Ann Waldner and her husband David Minot, Tracy Lynn Locken and her husband Kevin, Pueblo, CO, and DeeAnna Routledge, Carpio; a son, Darwin, Minot; three grandchildren; parents, of Williston; brothers, Robert, Williston, Ralph, Las Vegas, NV; sisters, LaVonne Twite and Marlene Wayne, both Williston.
