Georgia is said to remember her father as having reddish brown hair and blue eyes.

Her father was wounded in the Civil War and the federal soldiers brought him to the Millie Biffle house, Millie Biffle was an Aunt to James' wife, Melissa. He was weak and ill with a bullet in his side, so Melissa went to see him, this was near Belmont Church. She faced the union soldiers at the house, showed them proof of her being James' wife and was allowed not only to see him, but to take him home. The bullet was never removed.

Georgia was born on Cocklebur Road on the site of the present house located at 2992 Cocklebur Road, Decatur, Georgia. The present house is reportedly a duplicate of the old original one.

Georgia had red hair and her mother told her it came from her grandmother, Amelia McMillen Gazaway.
