Services for Doyle Layfield, 64, of Athens were held Sunday in Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens. Ray Hooper and James Holland officiated.

Burial was in the Prairie Point Cemetery in Navarro County near Kerens, under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Layfield died Friday in a Tyler hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 22, 1921 in Navarro County and resided in Athens 40 years. He was the owner of Doyle's Garage and Wrecker Service for 25 years and was an associate of Eaton Motor Co. for three years. He was a member of Eastern Hills Church of Christ where he was a Deacon and Elder at one time. He was a veteran of Military Service during World War II.

Doyle was active in Athens Fire and Police Department activities. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Tillie Doyle Layfield, in 1950.

He was survived by his wife, Vesper Taylor Layfield of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tommie and Harold Cook of Athens, and Helen and Jim Boone, of Irving; his Father and stepmother, Tom and Opal Layfield, of Kerens; two brothers, T.E. Layfield of Kerens and Lavelle Layfield of Athens; four grandchildren; a great grand-daughter; two step-great-grandsons; three nephews; four nieces and numerous other relatives.

Pallbearers were Guy Pirtle, Albert Kirksey, Cotton Eaton, Carl Harris, Paul Clanton, Allen Boswell, Brient Lookabaugh and Ray Trammel.
