Mr. Blacklidge was a native of Franklin County and moved to Florence, where he lived for several years. He had made his home for the past 22 years in Russellville.
He attended Weeden Heights United Methodist Church in Florence.
Mr. Blacklidge was a Mason No. 880, Phil Campbell, and member of Brown's Ferry Federal Credit Unit, where he served on the board for several years.
He was a master carpenter. He designed and made beautiful and useful furniture for friends and family. He enjoyed children, especially his grandchildren.
He was respected and loved by everyone who knew him.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Pinkard Funeral Home chapel, Russellville, with Clint Busler officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Blacklidge, Russellville, Ala.; son, Kenny Blacklidge (Barbara), Winter Park, Fla.; daughters, Dawn Beasley (Larry), Killen, Ala., Regena Blacklidge, Florence, Ala.; stepchildren, Lucy Warhurst, Russellville, Ala., John A. Shedd (Lori), Dewitt, N.Y., Russell T. Shedd, Atlanta, Ga.; brother, James Eugene Blacklidge, Florence, Ala.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher Blacklidge, Blake Blacklidge, Jake Blacklidge, David Beasley, nephews, Ray Hudson and Bob Freeman.
Honorary bearers will be Clyde Hargett, James Hester, Billy Mitchell, Paul McDougle, Harold Fleming and Erpha Cole.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Edna Lois Glover Blacklidge; parents, Albert C. and Bertha B. Blacklidge Sr.; and sister, Bertha Marie Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart and Stroke Association.
