CIVIL WAR

In 1860 Chamberlain Anderson was a Freedman living in Huntington, Gallia County, OH. He lived there as a farmer with his wife Eliza and their children James and Victoria.
He joined the Army as a Private in the 27th United States Colored Infantry. He was not assigned to a company and his exact service cannot be ascertained.
The 27th USCI was organized at Camp Delaware, OH, January 16, 1864.

-Guard trains of the Army of the Potomac through the Wilderness.
-Before Petersburg June 15-19. Siege of Petersburg and Richmond June 16 to December 7, 1864.

-Weldon Railroad August 18-21. Poplar Grove Church September 29-30, and October 1.
-Boydton Plank Road, Hatcher's Run, October 27-28.

Although his grave was not located, his burial and date of death were provided by the Vermont Marble Co. who provided his original headstone.
