Eugene R. “Gene” Cotter 76 years of 245 Woodsedge, died Monday May 19, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 15, 1931 in Painted Post, NY., the son of the late Neil C. and Margaret W. Marty Cotter. A lifetime resident of the area, graduating from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and Painted Post High School (Class of 1949). He enjoyed sports in high school participating on the Baseball and Basketball Teams.

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy (aboard the USS Salem) during the Korean Conflict.

Gene and Rita Regina Maio were married May 5, 1956 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY.

He was retired with 40+ years as a Drafting Room Supervisor for the Ingersoll-Rand Co. and Dresser Rand, Painted Post, NY.

Gene was a member of All Saints Parish, attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Past President of Painted Post High School Alumni Association, A past member of A.J. Carlton Post Gray Saints and the N.Y.S. American Legion Rifle Drill Team Champions, a member of the Corning American Legion Post 746, Corning VFW Post 524 and a member of Indian Hills Golf Club.

Gene was a devoted family man, loving and caring husband, father, brother and uncle. He was so very proud of his Irish Heritage and enjoyed participating in the families sing alongs. His caring ways and concerns will truly be missed by family and many friends.

Surviving his wife of 52 years, Rita Maio Cotter. Daughter, Kathleen Ann Cotter of Orlando, Fl. Son, John Fitzgerald Cotter of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Brothers, James (Em) Cotter of Fredericksburg, VA., Raymond Cotter of Painted Post, NY and Donald (Peggy) Cotter of Corning, NY. Sisters, Anna Dahlgren of Vestal, NY., his twin sister, Joan Candleana of Painted Post, NY and Rita Cotter of Painted Post, NY. Several nieces and nephews, (special niece, Linda Briggs Smith and special friends Jon and Phyllis Draper).

He was predeceased by his son, Timothy James Cotter.
