U.S. Congressman. He attended Fryeburg Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Fryeburg, Maine. He served in the U.S. Army, during the War of 1812 and after the war was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1814-19). In 1826, he was elected Nineteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Enoch Lincoln, elected to the Twentieth Congress and reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress, serving until 1830. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law and was a collector of customs for the district of Passamaquoddy, Maine, until his death.
