US Congressman. Born in Topsham, Maine, he graduated from Bowdoin College in 1809, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1812 and commenced practice in Bath, Maine. He served in the Maine State militia in 1814 and was a member of the Maine State Senate (1833-35). In 1839, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1843. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, was appointed collector of customs for the port of Bath in 1849 and served until his death at age 69 in Bath, Maine.
