U.S. Congressman. Born in Bath, Main, a district of Massachusetts, he engaged in mercantile pursuits and became a ship owner in 1801. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, (1803, 1808-12), president of the Lincoln Bank, Bath, Maine, in 1813 and overseer of Bowdoin College, (1813-18). In 1813, he was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth Congress, serving until 1815. After his term, he was again a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, (1803-16), plus a ship merchant in African and West Indian trade. He died at age 56 in Bath, Maine.
