TURKEY - Zafus "Z.P." Polley, 95, died Thursday, June 23, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Bennie Anderson officiating and Elder Roger Weeks as eulogist. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St.

Zafus was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Geneva to Wash and Alice Polley. He married Lurline Williams on Feb. 13, 1932, in Sabine County.

Zafus was a farmer for many years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and carpentry. He had a great love for family, friends and his dog, Spot. He also loved to sing and play the guitar.

He was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church for many years and also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; four brothers; a son; and three daughters.

Survivors include his wife of 79 years, Lurline Polley; three sons, Curtis and wife Sandra of Austin, Lonzo and wife Vickie of Childress and James Polley of Turkey; a godson, Kenneth Wright and Michelle of Plainview; five daughters, Mary Gore and husband Bill of Valley Mills, Addie Jones and Charles of Dallas, and Hazel Richardson, Faye Polley and Suzie Barnes, all of Amarillo; 74 grandchildren; 175 great-grandchildren; 85 great-great-grandchildren; six great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will be at the home of Suzie Barnes, 2401 Oak Drive in Amarillo.
