Delbert Gibson, 85, of Thayer, formerly of Springfield and Collinsville, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Auburn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Jan. 6, 1923, to Vernal and Myrtle McClure Gibson in Washington Park.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, in 1999; his parents; his stepmother, Orene Gibson; a sister, Virginia; and an infant daughter, Karen Gibson.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, Connie Stanton Gibson of Thayer; three sons, Gary (wife, Vickie) Gibson of Hammond, Ind., Terry (wife, Joy) Gibson of Collinsville and Jerry (wife, Diane) Gibson of Cahokia; a stepson, Robert Stanton of Thayer; two sisters, Berniece (Lorenzo) Davis of Springfield and Dorothy Anderson of Deland, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Delbert served in the U. S. Army during World War II and belonged to the World War II Association, Third General Hospital. He worked for Illinois Power Co. (Ameren) as an electric motor manager and foreman from 1947 to 1985.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham.

Memorial service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 201 S. Main St., Chatham, with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Graveside services will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
