US Congressman. Elected to represent Michigan's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1933 to 1939, and 1943 to 1951. He was defeated in the Democratic primary in 1950 and 1952. Also served as a Member of the Michigan State Senate from 1931 to 1932. He was defeated as a Democrat in 1928, and Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Michigan in 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944, and 1948.
