Mr. Marvin Ray Jones, 81, of Grayson was born February 1, 1930 to the union of Richard M., Sr. and Ina T. Jones in Oakdale, LA.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mildred Lois Jones, of Grayson; one son: Joe Cockrell and his wife Karen of Grayson; five grandchildren: Jacob Cockrell, Jerry Cockrell, Anthony Cockrell, Raymond Cockrell, and Rachel Cockrell; one nephew: Evan Broussard.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving for 3 years in the United States Air Force. Upon completing his service time, he attended college and finished getting a B.S. degree in Industrial Education. In this capacity, he taught his students for 30 years. He was one of the first computer electronics instructors in the state. In this capacity, he also served as a technical advisor to the U.S. Department of Navy and the Zenith Corporation. A man of many talents, he was also former Trailways Bus Driver, a former Deputy Sheriff, and rancher. He built robots and he started the first computer class in Caldwell Parish. When he retired, he built model railroads and was a model railroad fanatic. He also loved to ride his motorcycle cross country with his loving wife. He devoted his entire life to helping young people he came in contact with to help them to a better life. He was a Christian man who was a Baptist by faith. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V., and the Retired Teacher's Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Richard M. Jones; one grandson: Lester Cockrell.

Pallbearers will be Randall Thames, Jimmy Gaylor, Jacob Cockrell, Jerry Cockrell, Anthony Cockrell, Evan Broussard, and Mike Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Marshall Tingle, John Allred, and James Palmer.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be 10:00 AM Thursday July 7, 2011 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Julius Russell and Rev. Tommy Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
