He was born April 5, 1910, in Auburn, the son of Fred and Callie King Baines. He married Ella L. Fee in 1933. A resident of Springfield most of his life, Mr. Baines retired in 1968 as a car inspector for the Illinois Central Railroad, after 25 years of service.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one daughter, Marjory Baines Yoakum.
Mr. Baines was a member of the International Brotherhood of Railways.
Surviving are his wife, Ella L.; three daughters, Mrs. John (Audrey) Krofchick and Mrs. William (Imogene) Day, both of Springfield, and Mrs. Halbert (Sandra) Dodd of Spring Valley; one son, LeRoy Baines of Springfield; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Velda McNew of Litchfield, Mrs. Virginia Jones of Virden and Mrs. Marcille Stiner of Carlinville; three brothers, Melvin Baines of Springfield, Lee Baines of Virden and Fred Baines Jr. of Carlinville; several nieces, nephews; and cousins.
