Orville Lloyd Field, 87, died Sept. 21, 2007, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Reno County, the son of Lee Charles and Hattie Ruth Hoag Field. He graduated in 1938, from Buhler High School. A lifetime resident of Reno County, he was a farmer and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He belonged to the Milking Shorthorn Society, and the Union Valley Bible Church, and held various positions within the church, including board member, usher and Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 21, 1944, he married Esther Inez Reeves, in Hutchinson. She died July 15, 1990.

Survivors include: three sons, Harry and wife, Marsha, Stillwater, Okla., Glenn and wife, Cheryl, Hutchinson, and Dean and wife, Peggy, Graham, Wash.; four daughters, Mary Barnes and husband, Stan, Buhler, Nancy Thomas, Wichita, Cathy Hicks and husband, Jerry, Belleville, Ark., and Donna Cummins and husband, Roy, Buhler; a brother, Lyle, Wichita; four sisters, Pauline Horton, Wanda Nichols and husband, Leon, and Mildred Dirksen, all of Hutchinson, and Norma Jean Mohr, Shawnee; a sister-in-law, Virginia Field, Manhattan; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph, and a great-grandson, Neil Arthur Thomas.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Hodgson and the Rev. Stan Barnes presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Memorials may be sent to the Union Valley Bible Church, or Hospice House, both in care of the funeral home.
