ELK MOUND -- Dorothy E. Prochnow, 84, of Elk Mound died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at Myrtle Werth Hospital in Menomonie.

The former Dorothy Ausman was born Dec. 13, 1911, in Elk Mound, to Sam and Phyla (Quilling) Ausman.

She attended elementary and high school in Elk Mound and graduated from Stout Institute in 1933. She then taught home economics for two years at Dunn County Agriculture School.

Dorothy married Raymond Prochnow June 4, 1936, in Elk Mound. They farmed in the town of Red Cedar for many years, retiring and moving to Tainter Lake in 1971. Ray died that same year.

In 1982 Dorothy moved back to Red Cedar where she has lived since. Dorothy was an active member of the Tainter United Methodist Church. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Robert (Joan) Prochnow of St. Cloud, Minn., Jerome "Pete" (Shirley) Prochnow of Menomonie and Don (Barb) Prochnow of Elk Mound; a foster daughter, Kathy (Lynn) Behling of Menomonie; a brother, Don (Ethel Rose) Ausman of Shawano; a sister, Lorraine Shiffer of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Marianne (Rick) Arnzen, Sherri (Doug) Miller, Randy (Kristi) Prochnow, Kim (Kelly) Jensen, Douglas and John Prochnow, Tami, Angie and Tanya Prochnow; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a young sister, Eleanor; her husband, Ray; and a grandson, Jeff.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Tainter United Methodist Church in the town of Tainter, with the Rev. Steve Groves officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
