At the time of his death, his personal wealth was estimated to be between $400 million to $1.25 billion. His son Malcolm Forbes Jr., better known as Steve Forbes, ran unsuccessfully for president in 1996. Forbes magazine is famous for its annual list of wealthy Americans.
