U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1787, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1790 and commenced to practice law in Windsor, Connecticut. Moving to Herkimer, New York, in 1792, he was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1796-98) and was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth Congress, serving (1803-05). After his term, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 41.
