Motion Picture Director, Producer. A recipient of the Directors Guild of America lifetime achievement award, he made numerous popular films and classic TV shows. As a director and/or writer, TV shows and films include "The Twilight Zone," "The Patty Duke Show," "Leave It to Beaver," "April in Paris" (1952), "The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady" (1950), and "Tea for Two" (1950), among many others. He was a busy actor during the silent era, appearing in the landmark D.W. Griffith films "The Birth of a Nation" (1915) and "Intolerance" (1916). He was the son of actor/director Fred J. Butler and actress Adele Belgrade.
