Chester T. Eskelson, 77, of Enderlin and formerly of the Nome-Kathryn community, died in a Fargo hospital Thursday evening, Feb. 9, 1989.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Waldheim Lutheran Church near Kathryn with Rev. Bradley Edin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Pallbearers were Eugene Baarstad, Wilmor Johnson, Martin Johnson, Floyd Harrison, Kenneth Grothe and Kenneth Cavett.
Chester Thomas Eskelson was born April 11, 1911 at Fingal, the son of Henry and Pauline Eskelson. He was raised by his grandparents, the Christ Lees of Nome. He received his education in the Eastedge School.
He married Gladys Jorgenson on Dec. 30, 1936 in Valley City. They farmed in the Kathryn-Nome area until 1960. They owned Chet’s Service near Enderlin from 1960 until 1978. He also had the Eskelson trucking business. They moved to Enderlin in 1978.
He was a member of the Waldheim Lutheran Church and the Valley City Eagles.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Howard, Round Rock, Texas; Guy Enderlin; Donald Barnesville, Minn.; three brothers, Rueben, East Orange, N.J.; Ralph, Overland Park, Kansas; and Raymond, Minot; a sister, Dorothy Hovey, Lynnwood, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, twin sister and a brother.
