US Congressman. Born in Nehawka, Nebraska, he graduated from Nebraska State University in 1893, then engaged in agricultural pursuits and local political issues. He was a member of the Nebraska State House of Representatives (1896-99) and president of the Nebraska Republican League in 1900. In 1905, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Elmer J. Burkett and reelected to the Sixtieth Congress, serving until 1909. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912, a member of the Nebraska State constitutional convention (1920-21) and resumed his agricultural pursuits. In 1929, he was appointed Secretary of the Nebraska State Department of Welfare and Labor by Governor Weaver and served until his death at age 70 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
