Elijah was born at Caynham, Shropshire, England or Dudley, Worcestershire, England (name of place is different on different documents) to John & Hannah Ganner. He was baptised on May 15, 1815. He worked in the coal mines. Elijah married Frances Paggett at Dudley, Worcester, England on 31 Oct 1836. They and their 6 children were among the group that arrived on the Princess Royal in 1853. Sadly, their seventh child died at sea on the way to Canada. Their Children were: Hannah, Joseph, William Henry, Sarah, Elijah Jr., Ann, Samuel and Eliza. Their final child, Eliza, was born in Nanaimo.
