Best-selling author. Howard Fast specialized in class-conscious novels such as "Spartacus", a best seller. Fast also held strong left-wing views and a large number of his novels dealt with political themes. This included a series of three books on the American Revolutionary War period: "Conceived in Liberty", "The Unvanquished", and "Citizen Tom Paine." In 1953 Fast became the only American besides Paul Roberson, a close friend of his, to win the Stalin International Peace Prize. Its estimated that more than 20,000,000 copies of his books have been printed and distributed throughout the world.
