Robert Michael Bader, 87, of Sutton, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Sutton Community Home. Robert was born May 9, 1924, to Michael and Sophie (Wall) Bader in Cheyenne County, Kan., near the town of St. Francis.

Survivors are: wife, Delsie Bader of Sutton; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Myron Hinrikus of Prosser; son, Robert Bader, Jr. of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and RaLynn Christ of Sutton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Bader of Valentine; and sister, Meta Dankenbring, of Bird City, Kan.

Robert was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in that area of Kansas. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served with the infantry. Most of his days in the service were spent in Korea as part of the World War II Army of Occupation. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to the family farm.

On June 21, 1953, he married Delsie O'Dale Olson. They remained on the family farm until 1963, when they moved to Grand Island.

Robert worked in route sales and was soon able to operate his own small business, selling bakery and dairy products. Most of his customers lived in rural areas in surrounding communities near Grand Island. He operated the business until he retired in 1986, due to his health.

Robert and Delsie moved to Sutton in 2003.

Robert's life-long hobby was playing country western music on his guitar and playing accordion with his brother, Paul, and many other musicians. They played at all kinds of events and celebrations.

In their early years, they played music on a 15-minute radio program on Saturdays in Goodland, Kan. The highlight of Robert's musical days was the opportunity to play his guitar in a made-for-TV movie, "My Antonia," in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Burial was in the Concordia Cemetery, Adams County, NE with full military honors.
