(May 2, 1923 - August 13, 2009)

Jean Margaret Bergstrom, 86, of Cheboygan, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, Jean was born May 2, 1923 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the daughter of Frederick and Lora (Dodge) Stewart. On December 1, 1945, she married Captain Howard Bergstrom in Detroit while on leave. Howard preceded her in death on August 1, 2008. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, WAVES, at Chelsea Massachusetts Hospital, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. She later worked at Cheboygan Community Hospital for 6 years, and in 1956, began working at the Sears Catalog Store in Cheboygan, retiring in 1970 as store manager. She was very active with the Jehovah's Witnesses Hall, and was active in a variety of humanitarian activities. She had an appreciation of beauty and a strong conviction in her beliefs. She also enjoyed adventure, travel, and feeding wildlife.

She raised two surviving sons, William "Bill"(Rita) Bergstrom of Sacramento, California, and Robert J. (Alane) Bergstrom of Cheboygan, and two grandchildren, Nickolas Bergstrom and Darlene Bergstrom, both of Cheboygan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Howard.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 11:00 am at Oakhill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Education, C/O Janet Weiss, Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.
