Canadian Author. He was educated at the Quebec Seminary where he studied law, but after obtaining his diploma he decided a career in government after being appointed to an office. In 1865 he discovered his writing talents and published his work, "Essais Poetiques" that same year. In 1867 he wrote the poem "The Discovery of Canada" which received the gold medal from Laval University. His other works include, "Hymne National Pour La Fete Des Canadiens-Francaise" "Evangeline" (1870), "La Pelerin De Sainte Anne" (1877), "Picounac Le Maudit" "L'Affaire Sougraine" (1884), "Poemes Couronnes" (1870), "Les Vengences" (1875), "Une Gerbe" (1879), "Petits Poemes" (1883), and "Fables Canadiennes" (1882).
