*Note Change of Service Location* (nee Vann), age 86, passed away June 21, 2011. She was born January 26, 1925 to Thomas and Bessie Vann. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ernest Hughes on February 05, 2008. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, loving sister Elaine Ross, and brothers: Aubrey, Raymond, and Bill Vann.
Survivors include her son: James Hughes (Nancy); daughter Gayle Van Buren (Jeffrey), and special niece: Jaqueline Shirley (Stan). Also surviving are four grandchildren: Melissa Leon (Perry), Amber Mullikin (John), Jody Chatelain (Michael), and Scott Van Buren. In addition are nine great-grandchildren: James Leon (Regiss), Kristen Swanson (Scott), Jade Breedlove (Joshua), Kara Deem, Leah Brumble (Hunter), Christopher Deem, Christopher, Patrick, & Nicholas Chatelain. In addition, three great-great-grandchildren: Layla Leon, McCoy Alton Swanson, and Amelia Breedlove; 2 brothers: Gerald Vann (Bonnie) and Bob Vann (Ellen). Additonal survivors include numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Wonder Bread employee for nineteen years, Inez was also a Union Representative and Executive Board Member of the Bakery and Confectionaries Worker International Union Local Number 1 AFL-CIO for ten years. A member of the Vivian Society, Inez also was employed as a bookkeeper at the Elks Lodge in Hobart, IN from 1974-75. At the age of fifty she then embarked on an entirely new career, real estate. Inez obtained her realtors license in 1978. She started her professional realty career at Mirich Realtors in Merrillville, IN and later retired from McColly Realtors in Hobart, IN after a 17 year career. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville) on Thursday June 23, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. directly from Emmanuel Lutheran Church (5375 Harrison St., Merrilville, IN) with Rev. Justin Baxter officiating. At rest Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN.
Inez was a loving, resilient, and strong woman who dearly loved her family, always considering their best interests. If any of them were in trouble, you could count on her to give her all to help. If there was any cause for joy and celebration, she would be there to cheer you on. Sadly missed and never forgotten, the love she gave will remain in our hearts forever.
