Mr. Charles was born November 13, 1936 at Kiowa, Kansas, His parents were Lewis and Edith (Coberley) Charles. He had lived in Galena and then re-turned here four years ago after having lived in San Fernando, California for 32 years, He worked for Alcorn Fence Company for 23 years in Calfornia , He was a veteran of the Korean War. Serving in the US Army from 1954 - 1957.
He was married to June Karr Hendryx on July 23, 1962 at Bentonville, Arkansas, She survives.
Also Survivng are a Daughter Laura Charles, Galena, A Son John Charles, JR of Chelsea, OK and Daughter Julie (Mel) Hendryx of Galena, Kansas Three Brothers Jesse Charles, Baxter Springs, Billy Charles and James Charles of Galena, and one sister Irene McCool, Galena, One Grandson James Hagmann, Rialto, California; four honorary grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Richard Charles in 1975 and a sister Letha Charles in 1945.
Services were held on Thursday March 20, 2003 at the Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, Pastor Richard Nichols officiated. Burial is in the Pleasant View Cemetery, north of Baxter Springs, Veterans Graveside Rites were conducted by the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Funeral Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
