Lauderdale By The Sea, Florida ~ William I. Bancroft, a Lowell native and World War II veteran, died Sunday, Jan. 18, at his home in Lauderdale By The Sea.

He was born and raised in Lowell, a son of the late William Bancroft and Irene (Laffey) Bancroft. He graduated from Lowell High School.

Mr. Bancroft served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He moved to Florida 20 years ago.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bancroft was a lineman for Massachusetts Electric Co.

He is survived by a son, William Bancroft of Lowell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Hoar and her husband Dennis of Dunstable, and Nancy Souza and her husband, Wayne of Pelham. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Erik Hoar, Katelyn and Mikayla Souza, and Samantha, Mara, William and Christopher Bancroft.

He was the father of the late Thomas Bancroft.
