Born near Springfield, Clark County, Ohio Second child and oldest son of thirteen children born to John Grandin Hunt, Sr. and Mariah "Marie" Louisa VanMeter. When he was eight years old his parents moved from Clark County, Ohio to Menard County, Illinois. Benjamin served his country for three years in the Civil War serving in the 73rd IL Vol Inf. On 8 Febuary 1866 he married Rebecca W. Stollard and moved to Paxton, Vermilion County, Illinois. In the spring of 1872 they moved to a farm two miles east and two and one half miles south of Rankin, Vermilion County, Illinois. To this union were born one son, (Benjamin)Harry who married a lady named Bessie last name unknown to me at this time, and three daughters, Anna N. who married J.W. Diebert; (Dora)Alice who married Clinton Abraham Chenoweth; and Mary E. who married a Knox.
