He was born on February 14, 1931, in Charlottesville. The son of the late Thomas B. Harris and Lilly Louise Walker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Harris.
Virgil leaves to cherish his memories, five children, Ricardo Andre Harris of Fairmont Heights, Maryland, Shawn Thomas Pendleton and his wife, Letetia, of Troy, Thomas Virgil Harris of Cismont, Anthony Harris of Leesburg, and Debbie McBride and her husband, Mario, of Ashburn; four grandchildren, Dante Pendleton, Amaya Pendleton, Amber McBride, and Meagan McBride; brother, James O. Harris and his wife, Evelyn, of Keswick; sister, Mary Frances Burts of Keswick, cousins, Alice Douglas of Charlottesville, Leo and Nora Young of Keswick, Edith Evan and Dorothy Crews of Richmond, Ruby Nightingale of Keswick, and Martha James of Keswick; devoted niece, Lee Ethel Harris-Butler; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 East Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA 22701, with Pastor Kendrick Edwards officiating.
There will be a caravan leaving Union Grove Baptist Church, Keswick, promptly at 12:15 p.m. Repass will be held directly following the memorial service at the home of his brother, James O. Harris, in Keswick.
