GLENNVILLE - Donald L. Showalter, 81, passed away Monday, July 04, 2011 at the Griffin House in Claxton. He was born in Moline, Illinois on September 4, 1929 to Fred and Vera Hurt Showalter. He served his Country in the U.S. Air Force for over 22 years retiring as SM SGT. After retirement he worked with the Hillsborough County Florida Sheriff's Department for 10 years. He and his family moved to Glennville in 1980 where he worked with the Glennville Police Department for 4 years and later served as a bailiff for the Tattnall County Court. He was a member of Egypt Shrine Temple in Tampa, FL., the Philadelphia Lodge #73 in Glennville and the Tattnall Shrine Club. He was a member and past Commander of V.F.W. post # 8379 and American Legion post # 95. He operated Don's Saw Sharpening Shop and Locksmith service and was a member of the Glennville First Christian Church. He is preceded in death by daughter, Dona Cela, brother, Robert Showalter. He is survived by, wife: Marion Gray Showalter of Glennville; daughters: Nancy Purvis and Lisa Lester, both of Glennville; grandsons: Buddy Barrow and Brad Purvis, both of Glennville; sister: Betty (Harold) Redshaw of California; several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home Glennville Chapel.
